Heading to Nairobi!

Just 12 days after coming back from our very eventful trip to Nigeria, Africa Web TV is heading to Nairobi, Kenya. We can understand that a lot of eyebrows are being raised about our decision to go to Kenya at this time. One has not even had the time to get over the psychological trauma of being kidnapped in a blaze of frightening gunfire in Bayelsa, Nigeria. Nor has one had time to come to terms with being put in jail with hardened criminals by the Nigerian Police when one went to report the crime. Also the realisation that virtually all equipment that one took to Nigeria was stolen by the kidnappers is one that makes going to Nairobi at this time a curious decision; for some. These are equipment one needs to be able to practise his profession.

However, what are our options? To give in to fear and remain stuck in our office? Africa Web TV has never operated on fear. Africa Web TV is an organisation driven by hope. We need to showcase and highlight the other side of Africa. Yes, there is dark side to our beloved continent Africa. We see that every day. But every coin has 2 sides. The need to bring to our viewers the other side of Africa (the very bright) dominates our DNA. Yes, there have been a few bombings lately in Nairobi. But is there all there is to Kenya?

Our office is located in Rotterdam which for years was the murder capital of The Netherlands. That did not stop us from going to work every day! Plus, the commitment to go to Kenya was already made before we went to Nigeria. Africa Web TV prides itself as a reliable partner. We never break our commitments. When we make a promise, we deliver. It is as simple as that. Not going now would have made our kidnappers and the Nigerian Police the winners and rulers over our lives. It is a concession we are not prepared to make.

Keep your fingers crossed for us as we continue our journey to bring you the best of Africa. We hope to keep you informed of our daily activities through this blog. Hopefully we will be able to write more than 2 blogs (we only published 2 blogs before we were kidnapped in Nigeria) this time around. We understand the concern of our loved-ones, friends and well-wishers. But think of this; we could stay put and do nothing and let fear ruin our lives or we can just move on and be free. Going to Nairobi, Kenya is ultimately part of our ongoing recovery therapy. It is also key to our mission. See you in 2 weeks! We’ll be back!
