Wendy Kimani Dishes on Going Dutch

Wendy Kimani is by any standard a very impressive lady. She is one of the more established and more recognisable singers in Kenya. She first came to public attention when she came second in a nationally televised singing competition in Kenya. Although she was the losing finalist, she made such a lasting impression that many thought she was the real winner. Since then she has carved out a successful singing career for herself. Along the way, She has had several musical collaborations with other artists in East Africa.

Wendy’s music cannot be described as mainstream. Hers is a blend of soul, blues and jazz fused with the Kiswahili inspired music of her native Kenya. Strikingly, Wendy is not one to be defined by the aforementioned music genres. Her latest hit is the reggae insipred love ballad called Unajua (a collaboration with Gilad Millo).

Wendy Kimani moved to The Netherlands 6 months ago to be with her newly-wedded husband Marvin Onderwater. In this interview with Africa Web TV’s Aureliarita Marcellus, Wendy Kimani Onderwater talks about her journey so far and how she is adapting to her new home. She also talks about her fans and the differences in the Kenyan & Dutch cultures. Of course, she also talks about her music, her shows in The Netherlands and much more.

It was a great privilege to watch her talk and interact during the course of the interview which was full of humour and great laughter. Both Aureliarita and Wendy had so much natural chemistry they even devoured some meal during what turned out to be a very informal and open chit-chat. The interview ended with Wendy Kimani singing some of her hit songs and showing us why she is a voice to be reckoned with in the years to come.

We enjoyed making this video. We are sure that after watching it, you will see why. Happy viewing!
