Celebrate the African smile

Africa Web TV is 3 today! To commemorate the 3rd anniversary of Africa Web TV, we are launching a light-hearted project called Smiles of Africa. It is to capture the beautiful ways African (black) people smile/laugh. This project has been in the pipeline for years. There was however one piece of the puzzle missing; a title that captured the essence of the project. Then on Saturday 20th of June 2015, one total stranger handed us that last missing puzzle at a barbershop in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

This project is mainly picture-based which means everybody, everywhere can participate. Pictures of a smile; accompanied by a couple of sentences to tell about where the picture was taken and the story behind the smile. In this era of the smartphone, this should be easy.

African smileThe only important thing is that people know that their pictures are going to be on the social media and our website as part of this project. In other words, people should give their verbal approval. All of the pictures will bear the Africa Web TV watermark/logo to ensure others don’t take liberty with the pictures easily for reuse or other purpose.

We are hoping in time to create the largest database of (African) people smiling. Wherever you are, you can make a picture and send it in a private message to our community page on Facebook. The page can be found at www.facebook.com/smilesofafrica (please like the page!). Once in a while we will use our photo morphing video software to create some photo/video collage.

We have made tons of pictures of smiling Africans over the years. Behind every smile there is always and intriguing story. Oh yeah, there is a website for it too smilesofafrica.africawebtv.nl.

It is our hope that this project will bring a smile to people’s faces every day. Smiles of Africa is a project to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Africa Web TV. If these pictures and the stories behind them make you smile, then that is the best gift we could ever exchange!

Let’s celebrate the African smile!
