Mariam Aliyu Oyiza, Women Human Rights Defender from Nigeria says her country of origin is afraid of gender equality. The gender equality activist, who is currently under protection in The Netherlands, was speaking in New York at a side event of the UNGA 2023. The side event takes place a day before the Special Rapporteur’s presentation of the report to the UN General Assembly.
