Last blog from beautiful Nairobi 2014
14 days and 14 nights are gone like a sweet breeze. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and experiences this time around. It is not our first time in Kenya. We are 100% sure we are coming back soon again. Kenya feels like home. The beautiful Nairobi feels like our living room. It is a place to relax, chill, put your feet on the table and just completely be yourself.
For those reading the Africa Web TV blogs of the past 14 days, it might seem like we have an idealised view of Nairobi and Kenya in general. This is not the case. Kenya has myriads of troubles and challenges. There is poverty, corruption, insecurity, crime and more of those in Kenya. The traffic situation in Nairobi can be extremely challenging. The hotels are not always what they are advertised to be. We have seen all of that too. The reality is however, that if you look beyond all of these problems and challenges, you will see a very beautiful nation that can hold her head high in pride. The people are friendly in spite of all odds. They are welcoming. There was not a single moment that one felt that one was not welcome in this country.
We were not living in a dream. We were living in a reality that is called Africa. We realise many in the West cannot scratch beyond the surface. But to those who do, a lottery of joy and spiritual richness await. The natural beauty of the countryside is thing to behold. Everyone both in the West and beyond can reel off all the things that make Africa bad. It is our duty as Africans to present the other side of the coin. To show people what makes Africa so enticing and enchanting. Only then can people truly see the real face of Africa.
Even on our final full day of work in Nairobi, we were witnesses to the never-say-die commitment of some people to impact knowledge and more to the children of the slums. We were in the heart of Kibera again to witness children being put through the paces of art and culture. From scriptwriting to ballet dancing, the volunteers were working tirelessly to give the kids a chance in life.
Africa Web TV can look back at a very fulfilling time in Nairobi. We would like to thank all of those who made our stay a very pleasant one. We are definitely coming back. We have to now. Africa Web TV is in the process of setting up its Nairobi bureau office so the beautiful country of Kenya has not seen the last of us. Actually, our journey is just beginning.
